Our daily specials are taught by both specialist and in house staff.
Music and Movement: Taught by our lead teachers, our music and movement classes are designed to introduce children to the fundamental building blocks of music (melody and rhythm) as well as a variety of tonalities, meters and genres of music. As a bonus, teachers use this time to reinforce lessons from the classroom, including the prereading program. Best of all, it's lots of fun.
Art Classes: Art is taught by the classroom teachers throughout the school year. The children will be introduced to a variety of artists, art forms and media. The children will have the opportunity to do self directed projects everyday.
Montessori Movement: Our music and movement varies from good morning songs to elaborate choreography. There is often lots of marching, rhythm keeping, dancing and general wiggling around. The children love this time with their class and always look forward to it.
Outdoor Time is important to young children and we do a variety of activites while outdoors. There are garden beds at Northstar that the children tend; three vegetable and one flower bed. We have a family "planting" weekend each spring so that parents can be involved in the planting process and children take pride in the gardens at school. In the fall we have a wonderful time harvesting our crop and sharing the bounty with family and friends.
